Rancho Mirage Movers

Rancho Mirage grew out of five cove communities, Rancho Mirage, Desert, Palmas, Tamarisk and Thunderbird, and most of its homes still sit inside country clubs and gated neighborhoods on both sides of Highway 111. JFK Moving’s headquarters in Moreno Valley is about 52 miles away on the I-10, and our crews handle the gate lists, HOA move windows and second-home logistics that make a move here different from one in the city, with a written estimate first and no stair or long-carry fees.

Country clubs, gates and HOA rules

Thunderbird, Tamarisk, Mission Hills, The Springs, Sunrise, Morningside and Rancho Las Palmas are only some of the gated clubs here, and each has its own routine: a guest list at the gate, move-in hours, a place where the truck may stand, and sometimes a certificate of insurance for the association. Send us the rules when you book and we time the crew’s arrival to the window and issue the certificate in advance. Inside the gates the streets are private, so the city’s permit rules do not apply there; the HOA’s rules do. Thunderbird Heights is a gated hillside enclave from the 1950s, while Magnesia Falls Cove has no HOA at all, so there the only question is where to park.

Second homes in a city that empties in summer

More than half of Rancho Mirage residents are 65 or older, and at the 2020 census almost four in ten homes were counted as vacant, a measure of how many are second homes. We can run a move with the owner out of town: a property manager, neighbor or lockbox code lets the crew in, we photograph and list the inventory, and the load can wait on the truck overnight or go into storage until you fly in. Downsizing from a club home into a condo or into the Del Webb 55+ community is the other typical job; we move what you keep and can carry single pieces too, see small and single-item moves. Summer highs reach 120°F, so from June to September crews start at dawn.

Truck routes, Highway 111 and the I-10

Rancho Mirage keeps heavy trucks on a few posted routes, Highway 111, Bob Hope Drive, Monterey Avenue, Ramon Road and Dinah Shore Drive, with Bob Hope Drive closed to them between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. State law still lets a moving truck take the direct route from those streets to your door to load and unload, so the only thing that changes is how we plan the approach. Cathedral City, Palm Desert and Bermuda Dunes are minutes away along 111, Palm Springs is about 10 miles and La Quinta about 8, all hourly local moves with double drive time. The Bob Hope Drive interchange puts us on the I-10 for the Inland Empire, Los Angeles and Orange County, and the rest of Riverside County is served from the same Moreno Valley office.

How it works

Your Rancho Mirage move in four steps

  1. Step 1: Tell us about the move

Call or send the form with both addresses. A short phone or video walk-through of your Rancho Mirage home sizes the crew and the truck.

  2. Step 2: Get a written estimate

Hourly rate, crew size and estimated hours in writing before you book. Weekday and mid-month dates are the easiest to get.

  3. Step 3: Moving day

The lead mover calls ahead, the crew protects floors and door frames and wraps every piece of furniture before it leaves the room.

  4. Step 4: Set up in the new home

Furniture placed where you want it, beds and tables put back together, and a walk-through with you before the crew leaves.

FAQ

Moving in Rancho Mirage: questions and answers

Weekday rates are $119 an hour for two movers and a truck, $159 for three, $199 for four and $239 for five, plus double drive time between your two addresses. A two-bedroom club condo is typically a half day for three movers; a four-bedroom estate home with a garage, patio set and art is a full day for four. Weekend and month-end rates can differ, and the written estimate shows the exact figure.

Yes. Put JFK Moving and the truck on the guest list for the date, send us the HOA’s move-in hours and parking rules, and tell us if the association wants a certificate of insurance; we issue it before moving day and arrive inside the window.

Yes. A property manager, a neighbor or a lockbox code can let the crew in. We photograph and list everything that goes on the truck, confirm by phone when the house is locked, and can hold the load on the truck overnight for $129 to $149 a night or in storage until you arrive.

Not in practice. Rancho Mirage limits vehicles over 12,000 pounds to truck routes such as Highway 111, Bob Hope Drive and Monterey Avenue, but California law allows a truck making a pickup or delivery to take the direct route from the nearest truck route to your door. We plan that route and avoid Bob Hope Drive at night, when it is closed to trucks.

Yes, anywhere within California. Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego are hourly moves with double drive time. The Bay Area, Sacramento and the Central Valley run as long-distance moves on a dedicated truck with a written flat estimate. We do not move out of state.

Tips for your move

Moving to the Inland Empire: Cities, Commutes and Heat

Most people moving to the Inland Empire tell us the same thing: they want more space. A bigger yard, a garage that fits a car, a newer house, or simply more home for the money than they could find in Los Angeles or Orange County. Our headquarters is in Moreno Valley, so the Inland Empire is home turf for our crews, and we see what works (and what goes wrong) on moving day across both counties.

Moving to North County San Diego: Coast vs. Inland Guide

North County San Diego is the stretch of San Diego County between Camp Pendleton and the city of San Diego. When people talk about moving to North County San Diego, they usually mean one of five cities: Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos or Escondido. Our Escondido office runs moves across all of them, and the first question we help people answer is simple: coast or inland?

Moving from the Bay Area to Southern California: A Guide

Moving from the Bay Area to Southern California is one of the most common long-distance moves in the state. We see it from San Francisco, the East Bay, the Peninsula, San Jose and Sacramento, headed to Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire and San Diego. Because the whole trip stays inside California, it works differently from a local hourly move, and knowing how it works makes planning much easier.
