Pricing

How a local move is priced

Local moves inside California are regulated by the CPUC and billed by the hour. Three things set the total:

  • The hourly rate for your crew size and truck. The clock starts when the crew arrives at your origin and stops when the last item is placed.
  • Double drive time. Instead of charging for the trip from our office and back, the drive between your two addresses is billed twice. A 20-minute drive is billed as 40 minutes.
  • What is ready. Packed and labeled boxes, cleared furniture and a parking spot for the truck are the three biggest time savers.

You get a written hourly rate and a realistic time range after a short phone or video walk-through.

How it works

How Our Moving Process Works

  1. Step 1: Request a free quote

Call or send photos and a short video of each room. You get a written hourly rate and a realistic time range.

  2. Step 2: Confirm the date

A deposit holds your day. We send the certificate of insurance your building needs.

  3. Step 3: Moving day

The lead mover calls before arrival, walks the home with you, and the crew wraps, loads and drives.

  4. Step 4: Settle in

Furniture reassembled and placed where you want it. You pay at the end, once everything is inside.

Service areas

Where we move

Crews start from Koreatown, Anaheim, Moreno Valley and Escondido, so the truck is already close to you. Moves between counties are still local moves, billed by the hour.

Verified Great guys to work with The guys were fast, nice and great to work with. They were also honest and careful with all of my belongings. I say honest because something was broken and they showed me before moving it. They did NOT break it. They just noticed it had been repaired and instead of pretending nothing was wrong, they pointed it out even though I may have thought they did it. It was from the previous move.

I recently used JFK moving for a second time. Just like the first time the service was excellent, they arrived on time, and there were no extra charges or outrageous fees. The movers were so skilled and were able to get my furniture in and out without any problem. The workers handled my items with care and put them just where I wanted them At the end of the move, I actually thought the fee would be more than it was. If you’re considering a move, I highly recommend JFK moving. As a two time customer, I could say that the service was outstanding both times.

The team was great and was very thorough moving all our things, checking in with us throughout the process. It was a super long day but they were friendly and made the moving process less stressful. Definitely will use them again for our next move.

Windsor Hills, Windsor Hills, CA I hired JFK moving on 3 separate occasions, and I have to say that the service I receive from a crew that was led by a guy named Benny was exceptional. If you call them to get a quote, they beat everyone's pricing! However, Benny and his crew are who you ask for to get the job done right!

JFK Movers were excellent. They were friendly, efficient and professional. I was very grateful that they offered to put my personal , non- storage items in my car. I had a recent knee injury so this proved to be very helpful. The movers moved my things in record time; I was impressed and will use them again in the future when I have another planned move.

What a local move with JFK Moving includes

A local move is any move inside California that is billed by the hour, which covers nearly every move within Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties and between them. Your hourly rate includes:

  • A crew sized for your home (two movers for a studio or one-bedroom, three or four for a house) and a clean, equipped truck.
  • Moving blankets, shrink wrap, straps, dollies and floor protection. Every piece of furniture is wrapped before it leaves the room.
  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and basic furniture.
  • Basic valuation coverage (Released Value) at no extra cost; additional coverage is available on request. See valuation coverage.

Stairs, elevators and long carries are not charged separately: they only affect the move through the time they take. Packing is available as an add-on through our packing and unpacking service.

How local moving is priced in California

California movers are regulated by the CPUC, and local moves follow its hourly tariff rules. Three things determine the bill:

1. The hourly rate and the minimum

You are quoted an hourly rate for a specific crew size and truck. The clock starts when the crew arrives at your origin and stops when the last item is placed at the destination.

2. Double drive time

Instead of charging for the drive from our office to you and back, California requires movers to bill the drive between your origin and destination twice. A 20-minute drive between homes is billed as 40 minutes. Read the full explanation in our FAQ.

3. What you have ready

Boxes packed and labeled, furniture cleared of loose items and a parking spot for the truck are the three biggest time savers. Our post on why a short move in Los Angeles can take all day walks through the usual delays and how to avoid them.

Where we provide local moving

Our crews start the day from four offices, so the truck is already close to you: Koreatown in Los Angeles, Anaheim for Orange County, Moreno Valley for Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and Escondido for San Diego County. Moves between counties, such as Orange County to Los Angeles or the Inland Empire to San Diego, are still local moves billed by the hour.

How to prepare for a local moving day

  1. Book your date and send photos or a short video of each room so the crew size and truck are right.
  2. Reserve the elevator or the curb if your building or street needs it; we provide a certificate of insurance on request.
  3. Finish packing the day before. Label boxes by room and keep documents, medication and chargers with you.
  4. On moving day the lead mover calls before arrival, walks the home with you, and confirms the plan before anything is loaded.

Our moving day checklist covers every step in detail.
