Introduction
Moving to college can be an exciting yet daunting without proper guide or experience. From exploring the campus and researching college dorm room layouts to considering packing light and leaving extra space for items you may acquire in college, there’s a lot to consider as you plan for the move. This guide for moving to college will provide tips for creating a checklist of items needed for the dorm room, looking into student discounts for moving services, creating a budget for the move, and more.
Look into student discounts for moving services
It’s worth looking into student discounts for moving services. Many companies offer discounts for students and college faculty members. These discounts can range from waived fees to discounted rates. Be sure to ask about student discounts when you’re looking for a moving service and make sure you have your student ID or other proof of enrollment with you when you go to make the purchase. You may be able to save a substantial amount of money on your move by taking advantage of student discounts.
Create a budget for the move, including moving costs and other expenses
Creating a budget for the move is key to making sure you don’t overspend. Make sure to include the cost of the move, such as the cost of renting a truck or hiring a moving company, as well as other expenses such as the cost of packing materials, storage fees, and the cost of food or lodging for the duration of the move. Be sure to factor in any discounts or coupons you may be able to use for the move as well. Once you have a budget in place, you can better plan for the move and make sure you don’t go over your budget.
Look into storage options for items that won’t fit in the dorm room
If you have items that won’t fit in the dorm room, look into storage options. You may be able to find a storage facility nearby where you can store items for a low monthly fee. You can also look into renting a storage unit for a longer period to help save money. Additionally, many movers can also provide storage services for a fee. Be sure to ask about storage options when you’re looking for a moving service and make sure you compare prices to find the best deal.
Research College Dorm Room Layouts and Furniture Available
Take the time to research college dorm room layouts and furniture available so you can make the most of the space. It’s a good idea to measure the space in advance and plan accordingly to make sure all your items fit. Consider looking into student discounts for moving services, such as JFK Moving, to help with the transition.
Consider Packing Light and Leaving Extra Space for Items You May Acquire in College
It’s important to consider packing light and leaving extra space for items you may acquire in college. This will help you save time, money, and energy. Make sure to create a checklist of items needed for the dorm room so you don’t forget anything important. Additionally, look into storage options for items that won’t fit in the dorm room.
Research Colleges in the Area and Transportation Options
Research colleges in the area and transportation options to get acquainted with the local culture and activities in the area. You’ll need to find out about student housing options outside of on-campus dorms, as well as create a timeline for planning the move to college.
