How it works

What a packing day looks like

Packing is scheduled the day before the move for a full home, or the morning of the move for a partial pack. The crew walks the home with you first and builds a room-by-room list, then:

  • Fragile items are wrapped in paper and bubble, dish packs are used for the kitchen, and nothing heavy goes in a large box.
  • Every carton is labeled with the room and a short description, so unloading is fast and unpacking is easy.
  • Wardrobe boxes take hanging clothes straight from the closet; TVs and art go in their own boxes.
  • Anything you want to carry yourself, such as documents, medication and jewelry, is set aside and never packed.

Packing is billed by the hour with the materials included, so the quote depends on the number of rooms and how much is fragile. Ask for it with your free estimate.

Verified Great guys to work with The guys were fast, nice and great to work with. They were also honest and careful with all of my belongings. I say honest because something was broken and they showed me before moving it. They did NOT break it. They just noticed it had been repaired and instead of pretending nothing was wrong, they pointed it out even though I may have thought they did it. It was from the previous move.

I recently used JFK moving for a second time. Just like the first time the service was excellent, they arrived on time, and there were no extra charges or outrageous fees. The movers were so skilled and were able to get my furniture in and out without any problem. The workers handled my items with care and put them just where I wanted them At the end of the move, I actually thought the fee would be more than it was. If you’re considering a move, I highly recommend JFK moving. As a two time customer, I could say that the service was outstanding both times.

The team was great and was very thorough moving all our things, checking in with us throughout the process. It was a super long day but they were friendly and made the moving process less stressful. Definitely will use them again for our next move.

Yelp review
Windsor Hills, Windsor Hills, CA I hired JFK moving on 3 separate occasions, and I have to say that the service I receive from a crew that was led by a guy named Benny was exceptional. If you call them to get a quote, they beat everyone's pricing! However, Benny and his crew are who you ask for to get the job done right!

JFK Movers were excellent. They were friendly, efficient and professional. I was very grateful that they offered to put my personal , non- storage items in my car. I had a recent knee injury so this proved to be very helpful. The movers moved my things in record time; I was impressed and will use them again in the future when I have another planned move.

Why professional packing changes moving day

Most of the time lost on a moving day is not the carrying, it is the packing that is not finished: half-filled boxes, open drawers and loose items on counters. A packed, labeled home loads in a fraction of the time, which on an hourly local move lowers the bill, and it arrives with far fewer breakages because the right box and the right wrap were used for each item. Our local moving crews pack the same way they load: by room, heaviest items in the smallest boxes, fragile items wrapped individually.

What we bring

Small, medium and large cartons, dish packs with cell dividers, wardrobe boxes, picture and mirror boxes, TV boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, stretch wrap, tape and labels. Materials are included in the packing rate, so you do not need to buy boxes in advance. If you prefer to pack yourself, the same supplies are in our moving boxes and supplies shop.

What to do before the packers arrive

  • Decide what is not moving and set it aside for donation or disposal.
  • Gather documents, medication, jewelry, chargers and a first-night bag in one place you will carry yourself.
  • Empty the fridge and freezer and defrost the freezer the day before.
  • Point out anything fragile, valuable or sentimental during the walk-through so it gets its own box.

See our guide to hiring professional packers for a fuller checklist.
