Valuation Coverage

What is Valuation Coverage?

Even if you hire a professional moving company, you will want some insurance for the value of your goods if something is damaged during the move. Insurance that provides coverage for items that got lost, damaged, or destroyed during the relocation process is called Valuation Coverage. Valuation Coverage is provided by your moving company at varying degrees according to your requirements.

The valuation coverage of your choice defines the basis of your claim, how it will be handled, and how much you will be compensated. Liability for loss or damage is subject to specific restrictions and exclusions provided by federal rules and regulations and is based on applicable tariffs. This is the highest degree of liability that all licensed movers provide to their consumers.

Valuation Coverage Options

Although we provide basic insurance that is $0,60 per pound, we highly recommend purchasing full replacement cargo insurance.
Full value protection insurance protects you from financial loss due to damaged or lost cargo. It pays you the amount you’re insured for if a covered event happens to your freight. And these covered events are usually natural disasters, vehicle accidents, cargo abandonment, customs rejection, acts of war, and piracy.

The maximum we can offer is $20,000

Guidelines and Regulations

  1. Valuation does not automatically compensate for the damage. The mover’s responsibility for the damage must be proven and clearly demonstrated.
  2. Items in boxes that have not been packed by the mover are not insured.
  3. Unless there is clear evidence that the item was not properly handled during the relocation, the mover is not responsible for any electronic equipment that does not operate after the relocation.
  4. Even if you notice damaged goods during the moving process, you are legally obligated to pay the whole fee for the move. You can go with the claims procedure only after paying.
  5. JFK Moving doesn’t take liability for damages to floors, walls, doors, or painted surfaces that were not discovered during the final walk-through.
  6. JFK Moving is not responsible for repairing or replacing pressed boards or fake wooden furniture. This type of furniture is always excluded from basic and enhanced insurance coverage.
  7. JFK Moving is not liable for damage caused by non-routine moving, such as standing pieces on end, stairways, snags, abrupt turns, sharp edges, over-crowded workplaces, tight squeezes, handing over balconies, railings, and weather damage. If we consent to any non-routine moving request, you will be asked to sign a waiver.
  8. JFK Moving doesn’t take liability for any damage that occurs during moving damaged household goods, electrical wires, lampshades, beds, mattresses, and so on.
  9. Professional movers are not electricians or plumbers! JFK Moving does not disconnect or reconnect any appliances (washer/dryer, refrigerator/freezer, water or gas lines, electronics, etc.). All the plumbing/electric/gas lines and connections must be checked or accepted by you or your representative. Because we are not certified handymen, we cannot remove or reinstall TVs, lights, ceiling fans, etc. Any assistance provided by our movers is only as a courtesy and is the responsibility of the user.
  10. For large and heavy items like pianos, appliances, goods over 300lbs, the JFK Moving team might use special equipment, such as dollies, soapy water, etc. Moving pieces of this size might damage floor surfaces (marble, parquet, ceramic, hardwood). Any damage, indentation, scuff marks, and fingernail pulling that occurs during the relocation of large and heavy items are not a company responsibility.
